Advent House Dinner Dance and Auction at Casa Larga Advent House

Educational Panel entitled “The Brain – Living With Epilepsy.”
The panel will feature: J. Craig Henry, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurology, Strong Epilepsy Center;
A. James Fessler, III, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurology at University of Rochester and Director of Clinical Research and Assistant Director, Strong Epilepsy Center;
and Michael Radell, Community Educator, Epilepsy Foundation of Rochester.
This is the first of four brown bag educational events the Hickok Center will host throughout 2010. Bring your lunch and learn about the medical and social issues of living with epilepsy. If you or someone you love has epilepsy, here is an opportunity to learn and ask questions of area professionals.

Parkinson 5K Canal Run/Walk for a Cure Parkinson's Support Group of Upstate New York (PSGUNY)
Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Meridian Centre Park, 2025 Winton Road South, Brighton (between Route 390 and the Canal).
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.  •  5K Run starts at 9 a.m.  •  1.5-mile Walk at 10 a.m.
Runners and walkers can register for the event by mail for $18 postmarked by April 14th.
Online registration for $20 is available through 8 p.m. on April 16th.
Registration fees will be waived for runners and walkers collecting $100 or more in pledges.
T-shirts will be given to first 500 registered participants.
Late Registration: $25 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, at Medved Running & Walking, 3400 Monroe Avenue. $25 race day registration and packet pick up at 7:30 a.m. at Meridian Centre Park.
We are asking anyone who plans to attend the Parkinson Run Walk to help in collecting individual donations. A sample fundraising letter is provided on the web site. We also encourage organizations, workplaces, churches and clubs to form teams. Proceeds from the Parkinson Canal Run Walk will again be used to fund research and find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease (PD). With our donations we support the University of Rochester (UR); the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF); and the Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF).

5th Annual Cement Mixer Gala - Flower City Habitat for Humanity
Saturday, May 1, 2010, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Rochester.
Never a stuffy affair, our gala is a wonderful party we put on each year to raise funds for home building. Individual tickets are $125 each; tables of 10 are $1,250.
Doors open at 6:00 when guests start the bidding on our silent auction and preview live auction items while enjoying a cocktail and jazz by the Jimmie Highsmith Group.
Flower City Habitat for Humanity's major donors ($1,000 and up) will be invited to enjoy a complimentary VIP reception. Others may purchase a ticket for this activity at the $175 level.
Dinner and program begin at 7:00 with a ballroom dance performance by students of the Rochester DanceSport Academy, followed by live auctions: awards presentation; and danceable, high-energy music by Jack Baron and his band, Raise the Roof,

MS Walk 2010 - National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Upstate New York Chapter

Parking Information: Parking will be on the University of Rochester Campus.

4th Annual Little Links - Bay View Family YMCA, Southeast YMCA, and Eastside YMCA

Kids' Marathon - Bay View Family YMCA
Starts Thursday, June 10, 2010, at 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Bay View Family YMCA Aquatic Center Pavilion, 1209 Bay Road, Webster.
The Kids' Marathon is an opportunity for young runners and walkers to participate in a marathon – modified just for kids. No experience is necessary… anyone between the ages of 5 and 12 who is up to the challenge of completing a full-length marathon (26.2 miles) over the course of 5 weeks is welcome to participate.
Kids will complete 25 of the 26.2 miles prior to race day. Beginning June 10, participants will have 5 weeks to complete the 25 miles on their own by either running, jogging or walking.
Then, on Thursday, July 15, 2010, all participants will finish the marathon distance as they complete the last 1.2 miles together as a group down a spectator-lined Ridge Road minutes before the BIG Webster Volunteer Firemen’s Parade –crossing the official Kids' Marathon finish line.
Entry Fees: $26.20, and $10.00 for Companion Runner.

Rochester Tour de Cure - American Diabetes Association

Enjoy a bike ride that takes you through the picturesque Mendon Ponds Park and along the outskirts of Rochester through historical towns of Avon, Honeoye Falls, Geneseo, and Livonia just to name a few.
The Rochester Tour de Cure is a fully supported bike ride every mile you pedal and every dollar you raise! Our routes feature Rest Stops that are complete with fresh fruit, snacks, beverages, enthusiastic volunteers, medical and bike mechanical supports as well as Support and Gear vehicles and Ride Marshal’s.

plus your donation to the Hope Hall Scholarship Fund.
Hope Hall is a private, non-denominational school serving 128 students in grades 3-10 who have Auditory Processing Delays as well as additional challenges such as ADD and ADHD. The students who come to Hope Hall have very little hope that they will be successful learners. They come frustrated and with a sense of failure. Once they experience the learning environment at Hope Hall, these students believe in themselves.

Trolley Car Restoration - New York Museum of Transportation

Museum volunteers are restoring several antique trolleys for operation on the museum's rail line. View the progress as we bring a 1914 interurban car and a 100-year-old Rochester streetcar back to life!

Nature Walks - Genesee Country Nature Center
Sundays throughout the year*, at 2 p.m. at the Genesee Country Nature Center, 1410 Flint Hill Road, Mumford, NY. Follow a knowledgeable naturalist on a nature walk to learn more about animals and plant life in the region. Themes change every week.
Nature Center admission: Adults $4; Seniors (62+) and students with ID $3.50; Youth ages 4–16 $2.50; Children 3 and younger free.
