Volunteer Literacy Tutors NeededHelping adult learners succeed in reading, writing and English skillsMercy Bridges, a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, provides basic literacy services and English as a second language for adults who may not qualify for, or have access to, or success with other literacy programs. Tutors must be persons age 21 and older with a minimum of a High School diploma. No prior teaching experience required, although current and retired teachers are encouraged to apply. Our tutors receive outstanding training necessary to be a successful one-on-one tutor. Tutoring is provided in a public setting, often at Monroe County public libraries, convenient to both the tutor and learner. Tutors and adult learners meet for 2 hours per week. They commit to working together for one year. For more information, anyone interested in becoming a literacy tutor is asked to contact Sheryl Feigenbaum at (585) 288-2710 x526. Mercy Bridges serves people of all religions and faiths. |
