AIDS Care leads a compassionate community effort within the nine-county Finger Lakes Region providing a continuum of programs and services including medical care, education, prevention, advocacy, and support for people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
AIDS Care was formed January 1, 2010, as a result of the merger of AIDS Community Health Center and AIDS Rochester, both organizations that were founded in the 1980s at a time when the deadly HIV virus was first identified. AIDS Care was created to bring together all the HIV/AIDS services you need; and it is the only organization in the Finger Lakes region entirely focused on providing HIV/AIDS care and services.
Volunteers are needed throughout the year for a variety of tasks. To learn more, interested individuals or groups should call Marcia Famolaro at (585) 210-4188 or mfamolaro@acRochester.org.
Assist with the AIDS Ribbon Ride on Saturday, August 22, 2010.
Rest Stops – groups of 6 to 10 people are needed to manage rest stops at specific areas between Rochester and Letchworth State Park. All supplies, food, tables, coolers, etc. will be delivered to each site by agency staff. Volunteers will set up, serve riders as they come through, cheer on the riders and clean up. Volunteers are encouraged to decorate their rest stop in any way they would like. (Movie themes, different holidays, etc.) The more outrageous, the better. Time commitment varies depending on the location of the site (between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.).
Base Camp Food (at Genesee Valley Park) – 15 to 25 volunteers to set up the after-ride meal. Time commitment 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Other opportunities are available but are more individual or 2- or 3-person tasks. If interested, contact Marcia Famolaro at (585) 210-4188 or mfamolaro@acRochester.org.
